“Stobs stands out as the most complete PoW / Internment camp – the best archaeological site of that period”
The Stobs Camp Project is a community-led initiative in the Hawick area that began in 2016. It focused on the First World War internment and Prisoner of War camp at Stobs in the Scottish Borders. Experts consider it to be one of the best preserved First World War camps in Europe, if not the World.
The aims of the Stobs Camp Project are to encourage both local people and the global online community to better understand the camp and the role it played in the First World War, to value, share and commemorate Stobs and the people connected to it and to protect it for future generations.
You can now read about some of the project’s achievements in the new Stobs Camp Project book which is available to buy online for the first time. There are chapters on life in the camp, surveys and excavation, working with schools, researching the past, exploring the cemetery and commemoration.
