Berwickshire News and General Advertiser – Railway enhancements at Hawick

10 February 1903

Several railway officials visited Stobs on Friday to consider what railway facilities could be made for the military camp being erected.   It is rumoured that the North British Railway Company propose to build a large hotel at Hawick Railway Station to provide accommodation for military officers and others who visit Hawick from time to time in connection with the proposed camp.   Some officers have complained that the present hotel accommodation in the town is inadequate.

A company of sappers and miners are now employed at Stobs preparing the shooting ranges for the military camp and it is expected that they will be ready by this coming May.   The Border Brigade will go under canvas at Stobs for their annual training from 18th July to 1st August.
