Berwickshire News and General Advertiser – £50,000 paid for Stobs Estate

The price being paid by the War Office for part of the Stobs Estate is to be £50,000, for an acreage of 3,600 acres out of a total Estate acreage of 10,000 acres. The Government will acquire the remainder consisting of the two large pastoral farms of Penchrise and Shankend by compulsory powers under an Act of Parliament. The Government are also negotiating for the farms of Skelfhill and Priesthaugh, belonging to the Duke of Buccleuch. The camp will be very significant accommodating between 10,000 to 15,000 men in total along with ranges for artillery practice.
