At Peebles the Border Cup tie between the Rovers and the Army Service Corps (Stobs) proved somewhat unexpectedly to be a runaway affair for the locals. Of the soldiers, Brooks, Elfett, and McDonald seemed to be the only men whose acquaintance with the game had been of any duration, and even with a weakened eleven the Rovers prospects of reaching the semi-final were never seriously threatened.
