The Berwick Advertiser – Six German PoWs recaptured

7 September 1917

The six escaped German PoWs -Wilhelm Heinrich Jensen, Max Ammerlich, Walter Dusselmann, Emil Schultz, Paul Otto Butz and Bernhard Haak – were recaptured at Longhoughton on Sunday as they emerged from a field where they had been hiding.  It is believed that the men intended to board a freight train with the belief that they could make the coast at the Tyne.
