Berwickshire News and General Advertiser – Men of Ninth Battalion die in German submarine attack 24 August 1915 A draft of 100 men from the 9th Battalion (Second Reserve) at Stobs were on board the troopship Royal Edward which was torpedoed by a German submarine in the Aegean Sea.
