Hawick News – Prisoner of War rescued by Police Constable
14 November 1919
While working at Hawick Railway Station a German prisoner of war failed to notice the approach of a pilot engine and was saved from serious injury if not death by being bodily picked up by Constable Allan Walker and dragged onto the platform. Although suffering from shock the prisoner was permitted to join colleagues on the train bound for Newcastle and repatriation to Germany rather than being returned to Stobs.
