26 October 1917

Last week five German prisoners escaped from the internment camp at Stobs. Descriptions of the men were promptly circulated and on Monday night Scotland Yard announced their capture on the Northumberland moors. The village constable at Horsley, Otterburn, discovered that the men were in hiding in a wood. He made arrangements for its being surrounded by villagers with the result that the Germans at once surrendered.
