Kelso Chronicle – Internment of Stobs Soldiers
10 December 1915
A request has been made by the military to inter, in the Wellogate Cemetery, the remains of a soldier who died at Stobs. The interment should have taken place at Kirkton, but a decision taken to purchase a piece of ground in the cemetery for the interment and this was done. The Military authorities also asked the Parish Council to grant authority during the war, and until peace was declared, to allow any soldier who died at Stobs to be interred in the Hawick Cemetery. The Military authorities thought that Government should provide, as they had done for the Germans, a cemetery at Stobs and the Military objected to bury their men along with the Germans.
