Berwickshire News and General Advertiser – Plans for the summer arrival of troops

10 May 1904

Plans have been advanced for the arrival of troops at Stobs Camp during the coming summer.   Extensive stables have been erected at Stobs Castle, several huts built at Barnes and shelters erected at the rifle ranges.   The camp will mainly consist of Volunteers and Militia with several regiments of regular troops.  The Black Watch and two squadrons of Lancers are expected to arrive in the middle of May with the Volunteer Regiments later in the summer.   Negotiations with the Duke of Buccleuch continue over the purchase of additional lands close to Stobs.
