The latest device of the deserter comes from Stobs, where a Black Watch private exchanged clothes with a ‘tattie bogle’ in a potato field and then made off, leaving his uniform on the dummy to scare the crows. Ingenious, no doubt, but not creditable to this “Forty-Two-eth” who, after all, probably thought the ‘tattie bogle’ the better soldier of the two!
